Learning Goal: I’m working on a business question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.two classmates discussion responses one: My name is Saswati, and I work as an ESOL teacher at a high school in Columbia, SC. I am certified both in English and ESOL. I have been working at the same school for fifteen years. Out of those fifteen years, I have worked as an English teacher for thirteen years and as an ESOL teacher for the last two years. I have always wanted to become a teacher as I wanted to shape the future minds of this country.Scholarly writing includes argument, paragraph, evidence, and voice ( Walden University Writing Center, 2018). An essential part of academic writing is the argument. The paper is organized in paragraphs around the central topic or argument. In the introduction, the issue is launched with a strong thesis statement. The body paragraphs develop the issue along with the thesis statement. All ideas supporting the topic are evidence-based, and evidence comes from scholarly or peer-reviewed articles. All evidence is paraphrased and quoted per APA format to support the issue. The voice is adjusted through academic words as this is a formal piece of writing and meant for the academic audience. As a scholar, I am confident in my choice of topic and organizing the essential information in paragraphs. I need to write a scholarly thesis statement and find relevant evidence to support my topic/argument. Another skill that I need to improve is including in-text citations to clarify my point of view throughout the paper.two: My name is Brooke and I am from Tacoma, WA. I have been an English and Ethnic Studies teacher for the past 15 years at Washington HS here in Tacoma. I was on sabbatical this Spring serving as the 2021 Washington State Teacher of the Year and have transitioned this fall to the position of Instructional Equity Specialist at our District office. I have been married to my best friend for the past 16 years and we have 4 awesome kiddos. I love to read, spend time with my family, go on walks, and do yoga in my spare time.After reviewing the resources, I’ve come to understand that scholarly writing is about consideration of audience, formal word choice and tones, objective phrasing and concise but varied sentence structure. As a writer, I will work to connect with the information I am reading and studying through developing clear and concise evidence-based arguments. Thinking of myself as a scholar, I feel confident in my passion for justice and humility to continue to learn. I would like to work on my organization and voice. I am confident in my ability to cite in-text citations and utilize information from scholarly sources, but I sometimes struggle with creating a concise argument staying focused on the thesis I created. I have so many ideas and thoughts, I need to make stay focused and concise.
