Employee evaluation systems provide an opportunity for employers to give feedback to, coach, and guide employees. Managers and employees can set goals to address performance issues and recognize successes. Effective performance evaluation processes are fair, consider the individual’s needs, comply with legal requirements, and consider sociocultural issues that may be relevant. In this assignment, you will have an opportunity to review an employee evaluation approach and to evaluate it based on these four dimensions. Review the example below about Company Y’s employee evaluation process. Then, refer to the assignment guidelines that follow it for specific instructions on how to construct your essay. Company Y’s Employee Evaluation Process Company Y provides mobile pet walking and grooming services in a large suburban area. It has a staff of 20 employees who work in pairs, traveling to client locations to provide pet services. The owner of Company Y developed and currently implements the employee evaluation process. The current process entails the following: The manager evaluates all employees annually during the month of July. The manager uses a generic employee evaluation form that includes 10 performance statements assessing timeliness (2 statements), customer service (4 statements), and the quality of services provided (4 statements). The form consists of the 10 performance statements, for which employees receive ratings of 1–5 (1 = low performance and 5 = exceptional performance) on each. The manager provides the employee evaluations in a written form. Employees receive their completed employee evaluation forms in sealed envelopes, which the company’s office assistant distributes to employees. There is generally no follow-up or discussion regarding the evaluation unless an employee initiates a discussion with the manager. The manager provides all other performance-related feedback informally throughout the year, typically only in response to issues or customer complaints. For this assignment, you will write a 4- to 6-page paper reviewing and analyzing an example of an employee evaluation process. Evaluate the system. Consider ethical, legal, individual, and sociocultural dimensions of the employee evaluation process described. Develop an alternative employee evaluation system. Explain how your alternative approach addresses each of these four dimensions. Consider how employees would likely perceive your alternative version of the employee evaluation system. The paper should include the following: Use your textbook and a minimum of three peer-reviewed journal articles. Follow assignment directions (review grading rubric for best results). Use correct APA formatting per the APA Publication Manual, current edition. Include in-text citations and a references page.
